The Beginning of Nepal Biomedical Association: Born During the COVID-19 Crisis
The history of the Nepal Biomedical Association (NBA) began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Nepal faced an unprecedented healthcare emergency. At a time when hospitals urgently needed functional ventilators and other life-saving medical equipment, a dedicated group of biomedical professionals stepped forward with a single mission—to serve the nation voluntarily.
These volunteers worked tirelessly to inspect, repair, maintain, and restore ventilators and other critical medical devices in hospitals across Nepal. Their technical expertise and unwavering commitment helped ensure that essential equipment remained operational when it was needed most, supporting frontline healthcare workers in saving countless lives.
As this nationwide voluntary movement grew, it became evident that Nepal needed a permanent professional organization to unite biomedical professionals, strengthen medical equipment management, and provide solutions during future healthcare emergencies.
With this shared vision, the Nepal Biomedical Association (NBA) was established as a non-profit professional organization under the leadership of Shyam Sundar Haluwai. Since then, NBA has continued to advocate for biomedical professionals, promote professional development, and contribute to strengthening Nepal's healthcare technology system.
The photographs below capture those inspiring moments when passionate biomedical volunteers came together to repair life-saving ventilators during one of the nation's most challenging times.
NBA proudly salutes these pioneers whose dedication, technical excellence, and spirit of volunteerism laid the foundation of our association. Their selfless service will always remain a source of inspiration for future generations of biomedical professionals.
