Ethical Principles and Professional Guidelines for Biomedical and Public Health Professionals in Nepal
Members of the Nepal Biomedical Association (NBA) are committed to maintaining the highest standard of professional conduct. The practice of biomedical engineering and clinical technology directly impacts the quality of human life and patient safety. Therefore, this Code of Ethics outlines the fundamental duties, values, and responsibilities that every member agrees to uphold in their professional service to clinical environments, researchers, and society.
Maintain the highest standards of honesty, impartiality, and fairness in all professional relationships. Refuse to engage in practice which is unethical, illegal, or creates conflict of interest.
Always prioritize the safety, health, and welfare of patients who rely on biomedical systems. Ensure devices are calibrated, safe, and configured to deliver optimal clinical support.
Strictly guard patient information, clinical data, and proprietary corporate insights acquired during professional practice, complying with privacy laws and professional secrets.
Actively engage in lifelong learning and professional development. Enhance technical skills, support junior engineers, and promote advanced education in biomedical technologies.
Promote public awareness of biomedical engineering and its societal impacts. Advocate for sustainable practices, minimize medical waste, and support healthcare access.
Comply fully with national laws, international biomedical standards, and safety mandates set by regulatory bodies (such as the Nepal Health Professional Council).
All candidates submitting an application for Individual or Organizational membership must agree to respect, support, and adhere to this Code of Ethics in their day-to-day operations.
