Our History

The Nepal Biomedical Association (NBA) is the national umbrella, non-profit professional organization representing Biomedical Engineering Professionals in Nepal. Established in 2076 B.S. (2020 A.D.) during the COVID-19 pandemic, NBA was founded in response to the urgent need for reliable medical equipment management and skilled biomedical professionals. A group of dedicated professionals came together to create a unified platform for strengthening biomedical engineering services and healthcare technology management across the country. During the pandemic, NBA played a vital role in supporting Nepal's healthcare system by collaborating with the National Innovation Center, led by Mahabir Pun, as well as government agencies, hospitals, and development partners. Through voluntary repair, maintenance, and restoration of medical equipment, NBA members helped ensure the continuous operation of essential medical devices, contributing to uninterrupted healthcare services nationwide. NBA was founded under the leadership of Shyam Sundar Haluwai, whose vision established a strong foundation for a united biomedical professional community. Since then, the association has expanded its organizational network, promoted professional collaboration, strengthened capacity building, advocated for supportive policies, and encouraged knowledge sharing among biomedical professionals. Today, NBA is a nationally recognized professional body governed by an 11-member Executive Committee and supported by a 5-member Advisory Committee. The association remains committed to advancing biomedical engineering, promoting effective medical technology management, enhancing professional development, and contributing to a safer, more efficient, and sustainable healthcare system in Nepal.
